Tuition Fees & Scholarships
MasterPlus is a national programme that enriches your photonics‑related Master’s track with industry experience and community activities—without charging additional tuition fees. Your main costs will relate to your regular Master’s enrolment at your home university. Here, we explain what you can expect and which funding opportunities may support your studies.
For Dutch & EU/EEA Students
If you are a national of the Netherlands or an EU/EEA country, you will likely pay the ‘statutory tuition fee.’ This fee is set by the Dutch government, applying to most EU/EEA students and Master’s programmes.
Statutory Tuition Fees for Master’s:
2025-2026: €2,601 per year
2026-2027: €2,694 per year
To qualify for the statutory tuition fee, you must meet the following requirements:
No double degree
Students who have already received a Master’s degree or doctoral diploma from a Dutch higher education institute do not qualify for the statutory tuition fee.
Nationality requirement
You qualify if you are:
- From an EEA country
- From Suriname or Switzerland
- Recognized as a refugee by the Foundation for Refugee Students (UAF)
- Non-EEA student with Dutch student grant rights
- Holder of a long-term resident EC status with a Dutch residence permit
Additional application fee
All EEA and non-EEA applicants with a non-Dutch prior degree are generally required to pay an application fee of €100 per Master’s programme application, although this may vary depending on the university and specific programme.
For Non-EU/EEA Students
Non-EU/EEA nationals are required to pay the ‘institutional fee,’ which is higher due to the absence of government funding for these students.

Balancing Studies with Earnings
We understand that you may need to secure additional funding to cover some of your expenses while residing in the Netherlands. Parts of the MasterPlus study programme, such as the paid industrial internship, can help with that. In the second year, you can choose for a Master project in an industry of our ecosystem, usually linked to a financial compensation. Moreover, there are a few opportunities to get paid part-time assignments in education or research at the universities. Or consider exploring the vibrant student job market in Delft, Eindhoven, and Enschede.
Relocation contribution 2025-2026
Students who have completed their Bachelor outside the Netherlands and are moving to the Netherlands for their Master and this MasterPlus programme can -under certain conditions- apply for a relocation contribution to support moving to the Netherlands (equivalent up to €2000,-). Don’t wait too long, the number of contributions is limited! If you wish to apply for this, you must do this before 1 July 2026.
