The MasterPlus Programme is a specialization within a Master Applied Physics and/or Electrical Engineering and is only accessible when enrolled to one of these Masters. Each university designs its unique MasterPlus Programme, providing a distinct perspective on this specialization. Specialized courses, internships in the industry, challenge-based projects and various social activities are part of the programme. We facilitate inter-university activities and training, allowing students the flexibility to attend courses across different universities. Delft University of Technology
Embark on a transformative journey in Optics & Photonics at Delft University of Technology. Enroll in the Master’s track in Instrumentation at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, where fundamental courses amplify your physics background. Our Research and Development orientation, part of the Masterplus Programme, hones your skills for roles as a specialized researcher or physics engineer. The Applied Physics Programme
Our Applied Physics Programme offers a range of elective courses, including 12 focusing on optics and photonics. Given the significance of photonics in various physics domains, you’ll have the chance to apply your knowledge to areas such as quantum devices and computing, energy and the environment, instrumentation and high tech, and health and life sciences. Our System Engineering course is aimed at preparing you for the challenges of the engineering field. Embark on a tailored journey at the Eindhoven University of Technology within two programmes (depending on your background) — Master Programme Applied Physics, track ‘Nano, Quantum, and Photonics,’ or the Master Programme Electrical Engineering. Within both tracks you choose at least three optics/photonics elective courses, including an opportunity to tackle real-world challenges proposed by leading companies.
Programme Structure
Throughout the first year, engage in a series of industrial lectures, company visits, and social events, gaining exposure to industry insights. An integral part of the programme includes a paid industrial internship spanning at least 2.5 months within the optics and photonics ecosystem.
During the second year, immerse yourself in a graduation project within a top-notch research group at Eindhoven University of Technology or in a R&D department of a company. Additionally, you enhance your skill set through a week-long camp focused on optics and photonics careers and entrepreneurial training.
Upon completion of the MasterPlus, gain direct access to a range of job opportunities in both research (PhD) and industry through a national optics & photonics job fair.
The Applied Physics Programme
In the Applied Physics Programme, you start with a broad introduction to Computational and Mathematical Physics, and to the physics of relevant materials, in the courses Condensed Matter at the Nanoscale and Semiconductor Nanophysics. After this, you delve into the core principles of Modern Optics and Photonics, Nanophotonics and Optical Sensing and Metrology. You can then choose other electives in optics/photonics or in the other research areas of the department. Read more >
